Photovoltaic Solar Power Systems

Generating green solar energy from Photovoltaic solar panels

When people think of solar systems, this is probably the first thought that comes into their heads.

Photovoltaic systems have been around for decades but generally have been prohibitive due to their high costs. Over the last couple of years prices have fallen to very realistic prices allowing use in any household with available space.

Photo Voltaic solar panels It can be argued that electricity generated by your solar system is better sold to the electricity companies rather than used by yourselves. The reason for this is due to the Royal decree by the King of Spain that sets the rate at which electricity providers must pay for solar or wind generated electricity. This is similar in most countries with FIT's.

The feed in tariff was originally set at 42 cents per KWh but is offered in bands dependant on the amount of green electric input signed up to the plan. The rate as at January 2010 is 32 cents per Kwh but current first band prices charged by the electricity companies for usage is just 11.9 cents per KWh. This means you can use grid supplied electric at a third of the cost you sell your green electricity back to the grid.

At the current levels, which are then sustained once all the paperwork is complete for 25 years, purchase of PV solar systems can generate a guaranteed yield well in excess of 10-12% per annum. At this stage we believe the purchase of a PV solar system becomes an investment rather than an energy solution, especially given current low interest levels and the risks associated with stock market investment.

Of course not everyone has connection to the national grid. In such cases the generation of electricity becomes a necessity but again over the longer term, the prospect of free electric is attractive to anyone.

We offer off grid systems that have solar batteries to store electric and also the back up of generators for those periods when excessive electricity is used or low output is experienced due to the cooler/cloudier weather.

Photovoltaic solar systems are attractive for many reasons. They add value to your house, they can generate high incomes from the sale of the electric, they can solve power issues for remote properties and as a major added bonus, they help save our planet by reducing the CO2 pumped into the air when other methods of electric generation are used.

To calculate a guide for your location, please click on the link below (provided by PVGIS) and add the town where you want the PV solar panels and the size of system you may want. Please note this is in KWs not watts, so if you require a 3KW system type in 3 where it says "Installed peak power". The panels are crystalline silicon and generally the mounting position will be free standing. Then click "Calculate". This will open a window that will give you a guide to the expected power output.

As an example of a 3KW system in Benitachell, the guide KWh's expected is 4140 KWh per annum. the current rate paid under feed in tariffs for Spain is 32 cents per KWh, giving a guide income of 1,324 euros per annum. If we assume an install cost of 1500-2000 euros, this is a yield in excess of 10%. Larger systems will generate higher incomes and yields. It should be noted that under the feed in tariffs in Spain, the initial offering was 42 cents per KWh but this decreases dependant on claims. The current level in January 2010 is 32 cents per KWh, which will continue to decrease as claims are received. The paperwork can take upto six months to become approved, so it is important that you apply as soon as possible. We will complete the paperwork and claims on your behalf as swiftly as possible. Whilst PV prices have dropped substantially over the recent years, there is currently a shortage of large scale supply as many countries now offer decreasing feed in tariffs and manufacturers fail to keep up with demand. We believe this will begin to push prices up as demand outweighs supply.
